Arterial occlusive disease
How high is my risk of myocardial infarction or stroke, and what can I do about it?
How can I avoid surgery on my arteries?
The most important risk factors for arterial occlusive disease are cigarette smoking, dyslipidaemia, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and obesity. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables, reduction of body weight in case of obesity or overweight, and regular physical activity, cessation of smoking and lipid-lowering drugs can prevent progression of arterial disease.
